⌦ Design and Features

The design of the ADO A16+ doesn’t differ much from other folding electric bicycles, but it has some details that make it stand out.

Features like full suspension or the handle for carrying on the frame are not commonly found. Let’s see what else it has to offer.

ADO A16 portability

⧪ Frame / Materials

The frame of the A16+ is made of aluminum and shares some similarities with other folding bikes but has some additions.

Firstly, it’s not completely rigid; it has several movable parts at the back, allowing the rear suspension to do its job.

Of course, it folds in half, just like the handlebars, making it ultra-compact.

Another detail that sets this e-bike apart is the aluminum handle underneath the seat, which is very helpful for carrying it when necessary.

The welds may not be the smallest or prettiest, but the bike overall gives the impression of being sturdy.

The manufacturer sets its maximum load capacity at 264 lbs and accompanies it with a 10-year warranty (for the frame only).

⧪ Brakes / Transmission

The ADO A16+ comes equipped with mechanical disc brakes on both wheels, providing more than enough braking force for urban use.

Hydraulic brakes are better, but they are also more expensive and require more maintenance, and let’s be honest, you’re not going downhill on this bicycle.

Regarding the transmission, despite its small size, the A16+ features a 7-speed Shimano gearshift.

Many mini electric bikes don’t have gears, so this is another appreciated detail that allows you to get the most out of your ride.

⧪ Suspension / Wheels

The ADO A16+ has been designed with a focus on user comfort, incorporating suspension systems both in the front and rear.

The model features a front suspension fork and a unique rear suspension unit that effectively dampens the harsh effects of bumps and rough roads.

As for the wheels, despite their 16″ diameter, they are designed to provide efficient performance and good shock absorption.

Furthermore, the rims are made of alloy and have no spokes, which is another advantage as it requires no maintenance.

Perhaps they are very compact wheels, but this contributes to the foldable and portable nature of the A16+, allowing users to benefit from an easy-to-transport and store e-bike.

⧪ Comfort and Accessories

Thanks to its suspension and 16″ wheels, the ADO A16+ is one of the most comfortable electric mini bikes. Additionally, its assembly is straightforward and can be completed in a few steps.

Simply unfold the bike using the folding mechanism near the saddle, tighten the quick-release lever, and secure it with the safety pin.

Next, straighten the foldable handlebar and secure it with the safety lock.

Finally, unfold the pedals, position and secure the saddle. This process is quick and easy.

The equipment is also quite comprehensive, although a rear brake light is missing, which is necessary for city and road riding.

The A16+ comes with a 1200 lm front light that is water-resistant, but for some reason, they forgot to include a rear light that runs on the battery.

Instead, the bike is supplied with a small battery-powered red LED that compensates for the deficiency, although it doesn’t completely solve the problem.

This e-bike features an LCD screen that displays vital information such as speed, distance traveled, and battery charge level.

It also allows you to configure various aspects of electric riding, including assistance levels and even unrestricted maximum speed in the USA version.

On the handlebar, you’ll also find an electric horn, a throttle (in the USA version), and a convenient USB port for connecting your phone.

Other noteworthy accessories include the smartphone holder and foldable pedals, which are very useful for further reducing the dimensions of this bike when folded.

⌦ Performance: Motor and Battery

One of the most important aspects of any electric bike is its performance on the road, which mainly depends on the motor and battery.

⧪ Power / Speed

The electric motor of the ADO A16+ has a maximum power of 350W but is limited to 250W to comply with the legal regulations and adhere to the maximum power allowed in many countries.

It’s important to note that only the international version is unlockable. However, when taken out of the box, the power is also limited to 250 watts.

You only get the full potential of the motor when you press the plus and minus buttons on the handlebar at the same time and then increase the power in the menu through section P08 (0100 = No restrictions).

This way, you can achieve a top speed of 22 mph or even higher, compared to the 16 mph it reaches when limited.

The international version also includes a throttle on the right grip, allowing you to use this e-bike without pedaling, similar to a moped.

However, it’s important to note that in many European countries, the law does not allow a throttle on a bicycle, and it cannot exceed 16 mph or 250W. That’s why there’s a CE version.

⧪ Battery and Range

The ADO A16+ features a 7.5 Ah 36V lithium-ion battery located inside the bike’s frame, protecting it from the weather.

The maximum range of the A16+ with this battery is up to 18.6 miles in electric mode (no pedaling) and around 43.5 miles when using the assistance modes.

These numbers are only estimates since the actual range will depend on various factors, such as the terrain’s incline, weight, etc.

A convenient feature is that the battery is removable. This makes the charging process easier and gives you the option to have multiple batteries ready to use.

To remove the battery, you need to fold the bike. The lock securing the battery to the frame can be opened with one of the provided keys.

It’s important to mention that this is only an anti-theft measure and not a motor lock or any kind of starting system.

⧪ Assistance Modes

The ADO A16+ offers a variety of pedal assistance modes, adapting to different user preferences and situations:

  • Manual Mode: Operates without motor assistance, functioning as a traditional bicycle, excellent for exercise or conserving energy on long rides.
  • Assist Mode, subdivided into:
    • Level 1: Provides assistance up to a speed of 9 mph, suitable for flat surfaces and light physical activity.
    • Level 2: Offers support up to 12 mph, perfect for maintaining a good speed without skipping exercise.
    • Level 3: Assists up to 15 mph, where you can practically move without pedaling.
  • Total Electric Mode: Allows the bike to move without pedaling, using the throttle, similar to an electric motorcycle, ideal for short distances or leisurely moments (only in the international version).

Additionally, the A16+ enables the modification of various settings through its LCD screen, such as setting a constant cruise speed or a walking mode at 4 mph.

⌦ A16+ VS A16

There are few differences between the ADO A16 plus and the regular ADO, especially in the international version. However, some worth noting include:

  • New Support Stand: The regular A16 does not have a support stand at the base of the frame for propping it up on the ground when folded, a feature that has been added to the A16+.
  • Non-Permanent Rear Light: The new A16+ includes a small portable rear light instead of the cheap reflector on the regular model.
  • CE Limited Models: The plus model is divided into two versions, one for the international market and one for the CE, which is limited to 250W and 16 mph.

As you can see, the differences are minimal, although the plus model is the only one that offers a version prepared for European roads.

⌦ ADO A16+ Manual

Below is the instruction manual for this e-bike with assembly and operation instructions:

⌦ Advantages and Disadvantages

As with any e-bike, the A16+ has its advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a summary of the most important points to consider:

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Compact dimensions, especially when folded Limited range
Front and rear suspension 7.5 Ah battery
16″ wheels
7-speed Shimano gearbox

In conclusion, the ADO A16+ positions itself in the market as a quite attractive electric mini bike due to its foldability and full suspension, providing notable comfort and versatility in urban environments.

However, it’s inevitable to point out some drawbacks, such as a range that, while decent, could be reduced in intensive usage scenarios and a 7.5 Ah battery that falls slightly short compared to some market alternatives.

Despite this, the A16+ remains a noteworthy option for those seeking a compact and comfortable solution for daily commuting, offering a bridge between portability and comfort.
